Valentine’s Fun – 2017

Oh my heart!! When my neighbor and sweet friend came by to see if I could help out with some super Valentine’s Day pictures in the studio, I was pumped! She had some awesome ideas, and I think the images capture how fun their family is!

Seriously, is she not the COOLEST (and sweetest!!) Mom?! I absolutely love how much the kids enjoyed having fun with Mommy, and how much she enjoyed it too!

{D} Family : Newborn Session – Twins!

{D} Family : Newborn Session – Twins!

Seriously, how beautiful…to be blessed with two healthy babies, one boy, one girl?!

This family is absolutely precious — just look at these images! You know, I had someone comment on one of the Facebook previews about their Dad proudly serving…actually, while Daddy is proud of his babies and his wife…in this case, the Mommy is the one serving. That’s right — a toddler at home and the Military Momma taking care of these precious littles AND doing her thing at work while serving our country too! Amazing, loving, and beautiful family. Such an honor to meet them, and I know the sacrifices this family is making. It’s not easy, but with that much love, they make it look like it is!

In talking with Mommy, we decided an at home, candid lifestyle session with a few posed images would work best for their family. I call this realistic expectations! With a toddler at home and two newborn babes, although I know it can be done, I think having the best of both portraiture and lifestyle is the way to go!

Also, if you are interested in seeing their maternity session, you can find it HERE

This one is a must share!! LOVE!

Mommy & Me – {B&L}

Melt. My. Heart.

Seriously, Mommy & Me Sessions melt my heart in general (and what I’d have given to have more photographs like these with my littles!) but from the moment I met this little guy and his Mommy, I was smitten! First, I’ll always fall for a guy who meets me and starts giving me presents. Rocks, pebbles, weeds…I’m game…and, I still have this guy’s little gifts! Then, when my little subjects are so excited about a session with me they start posing and getting ready with smiles before we get to the actual venue…sold! Between his cute personality, those blue eyes, and his Mommy’s super sweet kindness…it was a wonderful session at Will Roger’s Park! This venue is pretty wonderful for family pictures, and you can tell that’s true by how many photographers are always out there! But, even on a busy day, we can always find some little nooks and open spaces, blooming flowers and even some trees to enjoy. I love the sweet moments and interactions with this Mommy-Son duo…

All sessions should end with a memorable face like this one!!! And, I LOVE that Mommy decided to add this one to her order…I totally would have too!! Truly an expression worth holding on too…they grow out of this way too fast!

^^^^ This little one also ended our session at his car, with a kiss on my hand. Seriously…Mommy better watch out for this heartbreaker!

And, standard with recent sessions, I decided to try my hand at a cute collage…I LOVE IT!!

{H} Family – Spring 2017

Hello, Friends!

I don’t think there’s any denying how giddy I am over this BEAUTIFUL Oklahoma family’s canola field session! There were so many amazing moments that came from maybe an hour at the field together, and I truly adore them! We had some interesting weather – naturally, we are in Oklahoma so it was fairly windy as you can tell, but it was also a little undecided as to whether it wanted to  be cloudy or sunny! We were able to capture a good bit of the images during the overcast time, but towards the end, it got very, very sunny!

Now, with my “style” of photography, my clients get the benefit of having me LOVE all types of photography — from portrait and posed to candid lifestyle and even the every day documentary — I love it all. That said, here’s another session that is a bit of portraiture combined with lifestyle…and I am so thankful that my client chose images for her order from BOTH styles! That completely makes the session complete for me as an artist, as I love the fresh, polished look of some great family posed captures as well as the moments that really make life so much happier in the raw moments together. The laughter, the fun, the memories…these are what truly makes memories last!

I think I am going to start offering collages like this on a regular basis for my clients!! I love having so many great looks in one place, and as I was playing with the images in this set, I realized how much I want one of these with my family! What do you think? Do you love collages as much as I do?!

Oh my goodness. The classic look and timelessness of this capture melts my Mommy heart to pieces!

It might not be everyone’s thing…but these shots are some of my FAVORITES! I love the focus on Mom and Dad…(and, for the record, I just saw those gnats in my picture, so those are about to get deleted in Mom and Dad’s picture! Left them in this one for a good laugh at myself though — I didn’t see them in my editing software, so I’m glad I caught them here!)

I can’t help but laugh at this! I mean, really, if you have children around these ages, this is just a necessity to capture! (and, I love the passion between Mom and Dad back there!)

COULD HE BE ANY CUTER?!!!!!

This little one is SUCH a beauty!! I love her freckles, and her eye color is AMAZING! I am so mesmerized by them!

Do you know I’ve known this guy for over half his life?! What a cutie pie — and, in case anyone wonders, he may be president, and very famous one day. Hence why he is so amazing at taking pictures! And seriously…why do boys always get the amazing lashes?!

Ahhhh! LOVE. Just…so much love!

Daddy and Daughter…

One last amazing posed…

And now for some candid lifestyle fun!

This family has now inspired a new pose…the Totem Pole! I love it!

Artists Inspired Blog Circle – Red

Beautiful…Red. Loving…Red.
You know, as I’ve gone through these past few months of blogging the colors, the one thing I can reflect on about myself is that I’m not very traditional! This month, I guess I’m a little traditional writing about “love” and “red”…but otherwise, you won’t see a lot of red in this post either! To be 100% honest, I’ve been sick with the death plague (also known as strep throat and an ear infection, coupled with some laryngitis for fun, which I graciously shared with my daughter, so she’s home with me today) and the pictures I had hoped to take I didn’t quite get to. So, in Shelby Procrastination Style, I searched for something that I hoped could fit anyways! And to be honest, I’m glad I did. There are some days (okay, nearly every single one of them) that I feel like a failure as a parent. But in truth — the way I see these pictures in this very moment, I feel that my babies’ Daddy and I have to be doing something right. If there’s one thing I think we’ve done right, it’s showing love to our children. We aren’t model parents, we mess up regularly (daily or better for myself), but at the end of the day, despite our flaws, I KNOW that our children know how much we love them. And, I’m taking this crazy high positivity with two things in mind: one, I’m on hydrocodone for the cough/fever/pain issue, so I could be a little off, and two, thankfully she isn’t a teenager yet and hasn’t started hating us (recently, anyways).

So. Red. Here is my interpretation for this lovely month of February! Our family is big (BIG) on traditions, and one of them is our Daddy-Daughter and Mommy-Son Dates!
My husband has been taking Caroline out on dates since she was five, I believe. If I was more together, I’d try to find those pictures to share…they are ADORABLE, and as I recall, there was quite a bit of red in her dress that year. But, my husband always comes to the door, knocks and she’s always surprised as he brings a corsage and asks for her hand. This year, we were all running a little late, so I had no idea he had gone out to knock, so I was fumbling to get my camera together. She was still getting ready (typical girl!) and thankfully he’s always been a patient man through the years and waited for her to finish up. I got just a few pictures of them before the went out to dinner (Saltgrass Steakhouse…seriously…he hasn’t even taken me there yet!) and to the Valentine’s Dance. Regardless of what they do, they always have a blast together, and if you can’t tell by these images, they are pretty smitten together. I adore how much love I can see in these images!

Knock, knock…

Oh my word…I need this one framed. Now.

I always feel like they have a secret language between them or something…and this image just makes my heart happy. They adore each other!

Red!! I found some red…Mommy did her nails earlier in the day, and coincidentally, she chose red, with silver sparkles!
And then…those RED lips! We put a little gloss on them since she is growing up!

The rest of their evening was wonderful, from what I gather, and they enjoyed lots of talking, and dancing. And most importantly, when Mommy came home with Tyler, they were both already in pajamas and playing the Playstation! I’d say that is total date night success for those two!

So, while Daddy and Care were off doing their thing, this little man and I had a date of our own to get to! A little back story — Tyler LOVE painting my nails. I think he’s always been sad that that’s not something he can really take part in (getting his nails painted) so now he asks to paint them all the time! Well, since I was painting Caroline’s nails, I let him paint my toenails. He loved it (and they turned out REALLY well). So he was already super excited and after doing nails he got changed into this outfit on his own so he could take me out. After he ran Caroline’s sweater out to her, he came to the door, and closed it while he was still outside…and then knocked. Melt my heart that kid is a fast learner!

After he walked in, he gave a frowny face — because he didn’t have a corsage or flowers to give me. So, he ran off to Caroline’s bathroom, and came back with a beautiful purple hair flower, which he placed in my hair and that I wore all night. Precious child! Here’s me, on our date night!

As I finished up my pictures, he picked up my camera bag/purse and put it on, and held his arm out for me to hold. I can’t even make this up! He did this on our last date too…gah! I love this little boy so dang much!

At Panera, before we went to the movies. This is our date night dinner most of the time. He always gets an “everything bagel” with cream cheese.
I could just sit and watch him all night.

And, my little gentleman…always trying to open doors.

This is the last of my pictures, but we had a wonderful night watching A Dog’s Purpose (okay, we both bawled). He also serenaded me on the walk to our car and in the car on the way home to Caroline’s honor choir music. This kid has some game. Girls better watch out!

Thank you to all who have come to check out the blog! I hope you enjoyed my quickly put together interpretation for “Red” and I hope to see you back here next month!

{H} Family : Two Years Old & Pre-Deployment

Military families have my heart, and for obvious reasons as my husband has been proudly serving in the USAF for over fourteen years, and my father retired as a Marine. Although my childhood was not filled with deployment memories as my Dad retired when I was young, my children have been faced with a couple deployment separations, various schools keeping Daddy away for months at a time, innumerable TDYs of varying lengths, and even just long (LONG) hours at work. There even came a point where I wondered if voluntary separation (him living in OK while I stayed in AL with the kids) would make more sense than living in a house where we’d rarely see him at all.

So when I hear that military families are facing a deployment, I try to help and offer sessions as I can, as I know the struggles are real. This beautiful family, though scheduled for deployment in August, are thankfully reunited and their separation – though never easy – was brief. I am so thankful to have been able to meet them and capture some of these precious memories for them, as their little girl had also just turned One shortly after this session. I look on these family captures and see so much beauty and the emotion of having a young family with a sweet Two Year Old. So.Much.LOVE. They know every moment together matters.

I can’t even being to tell you how thankful I am to have been able to capture this sweet family’s LEO Session not too long after I arrived in Oklahoma City! They drove out quite a ways to come see me, and I’m so glad that they did. These LEOs and their families deserve so much recognition and gratitude for all they do, each and every day, to help serve and protect.

While checking camera settings, this was the first one out of the shoot…someone was a little curious about me, and captivated by my camera. And I loved it!

Our Newest Family Member

Our Newest Family Member

Sometimes, you have to start your Monday off with a little bit of extra cuteness.
Today just happens to be one of those days!

Y’all, meet Beckett! She is the newest member of our family, a rescue puppy from Forever Yours Pet Rescue in Oklahoma City. What started out as any regular Saturday running errands wound up becoming a day that would soon change our lives.

My son, sweet Tyler, is a REALLY good child. He’s rarely ever thrown a “tantrum” and he’s typically pretty respectful of our wishes and requests. Granted, he doesn’t alway listen, but he doesn’t yell, scream, or throw fits. Well, on this very fateful September day, one week before making our Adoption of this pretty girl official, he did at the PetSmart Pet Adoption Event in Moore, Oklahoma. He must have known she was truly meant to be ours. As we left that first day after meeting her – “Zuri” according to her paperwork – Tyler said repeatedly that we were breaking his heart and that she was one of his biggest dreams. From the mouth of a six year old child, it’s actually pretty heartbreaking. As was watching my husband HAVE TO carry a bawling child out of the puppy rescue area. This behavior is so uncharacteristic for him – it truly broke MOMMY’S heart listening to how sad he was!

One week later, on September 17, 2016 the discussion of Zuri still had not passed. Tyler was still heart broken, as was our daughter. Both kids literally begged and offered to pay the full Adoption fee of $140 in order to pick her up, if she was still there. As we were, once again, out running errands, we found ourselves on the east side of town, right by the PetSmart (a good move by Mommy), and we HAD to go check to see if she was already adopted…and much to our surprise, she was still there! Clearly, it was a sign, right?! It actually sort of was…later that afternoon, we had a terrible storm, and that puppy rescue tent was badly damaged. Thankfully all of the puppies were safe, but our puppy – our Zuri – was with us, safely tucked away being loved on at home.

After officially making Zuri ours, we decided to change her name to something that suited her a bit better, especially since she wasn’t fully responsive to Zuri. We had all loved the name Beckett before adopting our German Shepherd mix almost two years ago, but our daughter decided to name “her” dog Zasha (after a dog in a book, called Saving Zasha, about a German Shepherd…I couldn’t really say no to that). And my son named this new little pup, Beckett, likely to make Mommy happy! And Daddy – despite the “fight” about all of the reasons not to get her, the kiss on her forehead at the Adoption tent that day sealed it…she was ours, and he loved her too.

So thankful for the many volunteers at Forever Yours and those with the PetSmart event that day! We love our precious girl, and she’s been a wonderful and loving addition to our home!

How could one NOT fall in love with this face?!!!

{D} Family : Maternity Session – Twins!

I am going to let this beautiful maternity session speak for itself…the only regret that I have is that I haven’t posted this amazing photo session sooner! It’s been in my Drafts folder for so long, but today’s the day to share this with the world! I can’t believe it’s been nearly a year (about 11 months since we were both back in Montgomery at this maternity session), but I’m actually excited to share since I truly want my focus to be on maternity, birth and newborn one day, and that’s a perfect way to share with my local followers here in Oklahoma City!

I am so thankful that this Mom & Dad trusted me to do both the Maternity and Newborn sessions of these sweet and beautiful twins! I cannot think of anything more beautiful than photographing these precious moments! Clearly, I had a difficult time choosing a few images…all of them are so, so beautiful!

I haven’t officially posted it yet, but when it’s published, you can find their newborn session HERE

If it wasn’t apparent before, it will absolutely be apparent now that I LOVE at home lifestyle sessions! I had the privilege of capturing this sweet family’s Maternity session, which you can see here:
Kitzke Maternity
. Just in speaking with this beautiful Mommy, I knew that we would have a wonderful and memorable session, and that held so, so true!

As a photographer, it’s one of those observations that I have to make — her sweet husband was so wonderful! I absolutely adored this couple during their maternity session! He was such a trooper and I can tell you first hand, it’s not all the time when a husband seems to enjoy the session (whether he really did or not, I’ll never know!) or if he was just doing anything to please his wife. Regardless, their maternity images speak a thousand words…all showing how much he adores his wife, and their Lifestyle Newborn session was different only in that he added one more cutie to love! Watching newborn Daddies…<sigh, and melt my heart>…he was so, so good with his son…truly the sweetest thing to watch!

For anyone questioning why one might want an in-home newborn session…please love, I mean, look at this amazing session! From start to finish, it was AH-MAZING…and, as I recall, we did have some fussy moments in there, which I totally expect! Please never worry if your little one needs a little extra attention. You just love your precious little, and I’ll capture the moments that you’ll love to cherish when this very short phase is over…

Thank you, Kitzke Family, for having faith in me and believing in me to capture these special moments!
