Perspective. That’s was last week’s theme…and, I think I nailed it! I had actually intended to do a totally different image, again, but when my daughter and husband went out for softball practice before her evaluations, I decided to see what I could capture. I took several shots showing various angles and views of the subject. Then, I decided it was time…
I might have said a short prayer about the ball not hitting my camera and also not hitting me…
M4H P52 [PERSPECTIVE] 8/52
Her first day to practice softball in a year, and only her second season to try. From this perspective, it looks like she’s going to do just fine…
(The first image, colored, is the image I submitted; the second image I just processed in BW.) Also worth noting is that I had no idea the “Synergy” was so perfect until I was culling through the images!
Pastel. Hmm. This is one of those themes that I wasn’t quite sure what to do. I love taking pictures of flowers and sunsets…but I knew the other submissions for M4H P52 would likely be similar. And of course, pastel candies, since Easter will be coming up soon…I just wanted something…different. And I love this project because it “reminds” me to take pictures that are important to me…so, my kids of course came in to mind, but I don’t really have babies anymore, and pastels were never really their thing. I had this image in my head of Caroline drawing a pretty pastel picture, but that’s really not her thing either (though one day…maybe!).
So, on the last day of submissions, I decided that despite the gloomy day, I would try for an indoor image of some flowers that are symbolic to me, but with a special Shelby Leigh twist…I added my “marrieds,” which is what my husband and I call our wedding rings! And when I finished shooting the images, I hoped for one great one, but it turns out I got a couple of different looks, some reverse macro, and all overexposed. But I LOVE THEM! I might actually wind up printing one to decorate with! My rings are turning out to be pretty popular in my photography!

This beautiful, vibrant yet soft color of orchids sits in our bathroom counter. Our bedroom and bathroom have (or one day will have!) the theme from our St. Lucia 10 Year Anniversary “Honeymoon/Renewal of Our Vows” and my husband picked out all the details, including this gorgeous color for my flowers. Last year I found these fake orchids, and knew they’d give the bathroom the splash of color it was missing, since our flowers from the renewal didn’t make their way home. But I look at them as a daily reminder of the vows we said, twice, and that I am blessed with an amazing husband and family!
The tagline Shelby Leigh Photography uses is, “Captured in the Moment. Cherished Forever.” Moments just like this! For the M4H P52 Project this week, which was actually two weeks ago since I’m a bit behind, I used the image below…and I think it’s so obvious why! My little guy. I never knew what joy and happiness he (a BOY!) could bring to my life…but he has, and so many people are blessed because of that sweet smile and amazing loving personality. He’s the smallest lil’ guy in his class…well, all of his classes…but I don’t think he tends to notice. He is so big and beautifully spirited with his heart and love for people. I’m so blessed to call him mine and pray that happy spirit is never taken from him!
Now, I know this image isn’t technically perfect…it’s a bit blurred and the SOOC coloring was way off. Shooting in yellow light indoor situations is not my forte! But this project is for ME…and I personally think the expression overshadows all of the technical photography aspects I usually aim for!
I had intended to take the theme “happy” in an entirely different direction, either waiting for a “perfect” moment or planning on snapping something that makes me happy. As it turns out, not planning a “happy” moment was so much more perfect! This is my lil’ guy at his Valentine’s Party at Pre-K…his shirt says, “Hello Ladies” and he’s playing a dancing game with all the girls! He’s my “little” guy…most of the kids tower over him, but he has the biggest and most joyful personality, and I pray that’s never taken from him! Captured at a perfect moment, where his eyes met Mommy’s, and he was so excited I was there to join in the fun (and yes, he pulled me over to dance with him shortly after this!) LOVE HIM!!
